Little Love is a darling and dainty girl of fifteen. When I pulled her last year from my local kill shelter, she couldn't walk. She had severe anemia caused by over one hundred ticks on her tiny body (fourteen pounds) and probably had a tick-borne disease as well. We assumed she did, treated her for several weeks, and then tested her to make sure she was okay. It was a great day when blood work deemed her disease-free and no long anemic! She now strolls around by herself, even on slippery floors, with great aplomb and much independence. Rather remarkably for a Sheltie of her age, she has neither heart disease or thyroid issues. She had a dental and looks good, boasting a fox-red coat and a saucy attitude. Although tiny and frail, she has a certain authority: she's never picked on by others, and no one tries to steal her food. She greatly enjoys short walks and garden strolls.
