Meet Topper!
Topper is a charming senior gentleman who is just coming into his own! After getting bailed from a California kill shelter where he was impounded as a stray, he entered rescue here last year with over two hundred ticks (the all-time record, so far). We treated him for tick-borne diseases and then tested him after treatment to make sure he was completely cured. He was. He also had an ear infection, a skin infection, etc. It has been a long recovery, but his disposition has remained sweet as pie throughout it all. Now he's frisky and happy and ready for love. He's had a dental, an allergy test, an abdominal ultrasound, and an echocardiogram -- the last because his regular vet detected a heart murmur and he was coughing a bit. After the echocardiogram, the canine cardiologist put him on heart meds and wow! Suddenly he stopped coughing, his coat turned bright red, and his energy went off the charts! It's been wonderful to see him blossom. He has a beautiful gait that we call "the Topper Trot." We know nothing about his past history. He was quite shy upon arrival here but now really enjoys people, pets, and socializing. He's really looking for a person or family of his own. A special family or individual who wants to love and be loved by a special dog will be the right home for Topper. On recent vet visits, one vet said, "he can't be older than ten," and another said "he can't be younger than twelve." LOL So I am calling him eleven, and a very joyful and fun eleven at that. Topper loves walks. He'd be fine in an apartment or a house. He gets along with other dogs very well, though if another dog attacks him, he will fight back (which is normal). He's a generally agreeable, adorable, and delightful guy. Any adopter will have to be prepared to monitor his heart condition, feed a low-fat diet, and be sensitive to potential "senior" issues. Do you have room in your heart for this wonderful senior puppy?
